Tom Brady to Tampa?
Tom Brady going to Los Angeles sounds right, even Chicago or San Francisco, but Tampa Bay? It seems odd just typing it. Tom Brady, the GOAT, the six-time Super Bowl champ, the supermodel girlfriend, and the face of New England Patriots left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 42 years old. But when you look at it, the move shouldn’t surprise anyone, and it’s the organization that is ready to compete right away. Tom already comes in with an incredible resume, more super bowls, and wins in the post-season then the whole organization. So it only makes sense that they cater to his every needs to make a run at a super bowl. They have so far drafting arguably the best offensive lineman in the draft, traded for Gronk, and brought back Suh to anchor an already stellar defense. Yes, they have made the moves, but its coach and players that fit perfectly for Brady.
Bruce Arians, a veteran coach who has worked with Big Ben and Manning. His offense is high powered, look at Jameis Winston he had a recorded setting year with 30 passing touchdowns. If you take away the thirty interceptions or at least cut those down, Tampa wins more games. Now with Tom Brady looking to prove he is not a system quarterback and the offensive weapons. The wide receiver core has one of the best top receivers. First is Mike Evans, a top 5 receiver at 6’5 had back to back thousand-yard season and even in 2018 had over fifteen hundred yards, and this is all with Jamies Winston. The last great receiver that Brady had was Randy Moss, and we all know how that went. Next Chris Godwin, last season over thirteen hundred years and nine touchdowns, has solidified himself as a top tier receiver. Next is the Tight Ends, Cameron Brate and Oj Howard. Although OJ Howard was in Arian’s doghouse last year, he still is young and can block. Now with the addition of Gronk, it gives Brady a familiar target. For Gronk, he will be healthy and getting back into game shape a year removed from the game. Plagued with injuries in his final seasons, but he can still be relied upon for a big catch as he did against the Chiefs in the 2018 AFC championship game. Finally, the defense, led by veteran coach Todd Bowles that last six games had allowed the lowest yards per play. Now with getting Suh back and franchise tagging Barrett, the team is primed to repeat its success, especially now that the team is motivated by the arrival of Tom Brady and contending for a Super Bowl.
For Tampa Bay and Brady, though it will be the NFC South, that is the biggest obstacle for Brady’s seventh ring and Tampa’s second. Even in the division, it will be tough with Atlanta looking to rebound after a debacle first half of the season. Next is Carolina, who, with first-year coach Rhule drafted only defense players and signed more than capable quarterback Bridgewater. I love the signing of Robby Anderson as well; he’s away from the chaos of New York. Finally, the New Orleans Saints that have a reloaded offense with the addition of Emmanuel Sanders frees up more touches for Michael Thomas. Let’s not forget Malcolm Jenkins as well. It all comes down to Drew Brees again, and if Alvin Kamara extension talk will become a distraction.
Outside, the NFC south through Tampa has to watch out for the Niners and Seattle. The Niners picked up one of the best defensive linemen in the draft, and the defense lead by Bosa is all young and only getting better. For Jimmy G though, will he keep the picks down. The team looks poised to return to the super bowl. Seattle anytime with Russell Wilson has a chance to make the Super Bowl, will they resign Clowney? With stiff competition, it will be interesting to see how Tampa and Brady navigate the season. The division will be tough going against Brees, Bridgewater, and Ryan. At 43, can Tom Brady tame all the skeptics and with an organization and an offense tailored to him can he once again as he seems always to prove everyone wrong.
